What is it?

Dose of Kindness Programm assistance may include computers. The purpose of the Dose of Kindness Program is to help improve the lives of children with special health care needs from eligible families in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The program provides products and services that are not covered by Medicaid or private insurance, and that are usually not available from public service or government agencies. This may include computers, arts and sports equipment, home modifications, communications and transportation devices, and other products and services not considered “medically necessary.”

Who is eligible?

Legal residents of the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, MD, Prince George’s County, MD, Fairfax County, VA, Arlington County, VA, and the city of Alexandria, VA can receive program awards. To be eligible, a child must be 21 years or younger. Other than living in the areas just mentioned, there are two kinds of eligibility—income and disability. Full eligibility requirements are provided in the application. Completing an application will not guarantee an award. Award selections will be made on the greatest need, based on information provided in the applications. Click here for eligibility details.

What are the awards?

The awards are made in the form of goods or services. No cash awards will be made. While there is no dollar limit on the value of the award, we will try to serve as many children as possible. But we also want to make sure that each award will make a big difference in the life of a child.

Note: The program does not fund “life necessity” goods and services. For example, the program does not generally fund food, clothing, medicine, direct medical service, or housing.
