Health Insurance

Employees working at least 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in our health insurance plan. Coverage begins the first of the month after Hire date. We offer the following health plans:

  • Aetna US Healthcare (HMO & POS)
  • Kaiser Permanente (HMO & POS)

Dental Insurance - Delta Dental

All employees working at least 20 hours per week are eligible to participate in our dental plan. Coverage begins the first day of the month after 3 months of employment. HSC pays 100% of Dental coverage for the employee. Employees have the option to purchase family coverage.

Domestic Partner Benefits

The HSC Health Care System will extend to same-sex domestic partners of employees the same benefits and privileges offered to spouses and their dependent children. By offering diverse benefit policies, we move in a direction that creates a workplace where all employees are valued respected and given equal and fair treatment; promotes equal opportunity and nondiscrimination practices; and helps attract and retain talented people. Benefits afforded to domestic partners and their children are those that are normally available to spouses and children of employees such as medical, dental and life insurance.

Flex Medical Spending Account

Employees working 32-40 hours per week can deposit pre-tax dollars for defined eligible medical expenses not covered by their health insurance plan. Maximum account balance is $3,500.

Flex Dependent Care Spending Account

Employees working 32-40 hours per week can deposit pre-tax dollars for qualifying dependent care expenses. Up to $5,000 of dependent care expenses may be paid with pre-tax dollars.

Cash Balance Pension Plan (non-contributory)

Participation in the Cash Balance Pension Plan begins the first of the month after Hire date. Employees earn vesting time by maintaining 1,000 worked hours per year. Employees are fully vested after 3 years of service. HSC contributes 5% of total year-end compensation.

403(b) Investment Plan (contributory)

Employees may have pre-tax payroll deductions placed in a tax-deferred annuity. HSC matches 50% of employee's contributions, up to a maximum of 3% of base salary. Maximum contribution is $15,500 annually, as of January 1, 2009. Employees working 32-40 hours per week are eligible upon hire for Employee contribution. Eligible for employer match after one (1) year of service. Employee is immediately vested in both the employee and employer contributions. We offer the following Tax Deferred Annuity Company:

Tuition Assistance

All full-time and part-time employees working at least 20 hours, and completing 3 months of employment may participate in our Tuition Assistance program.

  • 40 hrs. /wk - $2,000 per year
  • 36 hrs. /wk - $1,800 per year
  • 32 hrs. /wk - $1,600 per year
  • 28 hrs. /wk - $1,400 per year
  • 24 hrs. /wk - $1,200 per year
  • 20 hrs. /wk - $1,000 per year

 Annual Leave

All full-time and part-time employees are awarded annual leave according to the following schedule. Leave is accrued from first day of employment: available for use after 90 days.

Holidays

We offer 8 holidays: 1- New Year's Day, 2- Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, 3- Memorial Day, 4-Independence Day, 5- Labor Day, 6-Thanksgiving Day, 7-Christmas Day, 8-Inauguration Day

Floating Days

Employees working 32-40 hours per week are awarded two (2) floating days per year. Employees working 20-31 are awarded eight (8) hours per year

Basic Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment

Employees working at least 32 hours per week are eligible for Basic Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment. Coverage begins the first day of The month after 3 months of employment. Benefit amount is equal to 1 1/2 times Employee’s Base salary. HSC pays 100% of cost.

Optional Life Insurance

Employees working at least 32 hours per week are eligible to apply for Optional Life Insurance. Coverage begins the first day of the month after 3 months of employment. Coverage is also available for spouses and dependent children however employees must elect optional life insurance in order to purchase coverage on their spouse and/or dependent(s). Employee pays 100% of premium. Rates are based on age and amount of coverage.

Long-Term Disability

All employees working at least 32 hours per week are eligible for Long-Term Disability. Coverage begins the first day of the month after 3 months of employment. Employee receives compensation equal to 60% of their base monthly wages, after 180-day elimination period. HSC pays 100%.

Short-Term Disability

Employees working at least 32 hours per week are eligible for Short-Term Disability. Coverage begins the first day of the month after 3 months of employment. Employee receives compensation equal to 60% of their base monthly wages, after 15-day elimination period. Employee pays 100% of premium.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Employee Assistance Program is a confidential counseling and referral service available for all HSC Health Care System employees and their families. The EAP provides face-to-face evaluations by a licensed, professional counselor at convenient office locations. They also offer easy access to services and crisis counseling 24 hours a day, seven days a week via a toll-free number. HSC Health Care System pays 100% of the charge for the EAP service.

NIH Federal Credit Union

The NIH Federal Credit Union is a full service financial institution that offers a variety of money saving products and services such as: savings and checking account, holiday club account, Money Market Account, Individual Retirement Account and more.

Commuter Connections

This benefit provides tax-free savings for employees who use any public transportation to and from work.

United Buying Services

The United Buying Services enables you to feel good about car buying. They also offer the lowest pre-negotiated price on vehicles, discounted option pricing, extra savings with rebates and incentives.

Pre-Paid Legal Services

This benefit is available to all employees. The plan covers you and your family.

The HSC Health Care System is committed to providing services for the health and well being of our employees. Beyond Excellence is a Wellness Program that provides services that keep employees healthy, detect concerns early and help employees manage their health. Beyond Excellence offers information and programs in areas such as nutrition, fitness, disease management, and stress management, healthy coping strategies on the job, healthy heart lessons, health screenings, and cholesterol screenings. HSC pays 100%.
