Pool therapy experience is a plus. A graduate of an approved professional school of Occupational/Physical Therapy is required. The therapist must be licensed to practice or eligible for licensure in the District of Columbia. One clinical affiliation in pediatrics and/or experience with children is desired. The Registered Nurse gives direct and indirect care and provides supervision to the nursing staff regarding patient care. All efforts are directed towards continuous quality improvement and family centered care. May be utilized as an associate case manager, charge nurse, preceptor or code team member. In addition, staff in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patents status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the departmental policy and procedure manual. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to gather data reflective of the patientsí status relative to his or her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the departmental policy and procedure manual. Must have 1 year of experience and nurse aide competency evaluation program (certification preferred). Previous experience working with handicapped children preferred. Must have valid CPR card, must write legible, follows directions and works cooperatively with members of all departments and other hospital affiliations. Must have a working knowledge of the principles of pediatric recreation therapy. Knowledge of growth and development, and of diseases and disabilities. Ability to work well with others. Ability to communicate well, both verbally and in writing. Working knowledge of infection control principles and techniques. A current DC PT license and CPR certification is required. The Recreation Therapist will provide a therapeutic milieu in which the HSC patients are motivated to engage in recreational activities that are safe, constructive, educational, enjoyable, and rehabilitative. This individual must have a BA/BS degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation Therapy from a National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) accredited institution. The Recreation Therapist must demonstrate a professional and enthusiastic interest in pediatric program enhancement/development to address the diverse and holistic needs of this population. The Therapist must have a working knowledge of the principles of pediatric recreation therapy, knowledge of growth and development and of diseases and disabilities. The Therapist must also have the ability to work well with others, to communicate well both verbally and in writing. This individual must have a working knowledge of infection control principles and techniques. A Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) certification and current CPR is required. A Tracheostomy training course must be completed within three months of hire. The Recreation Therapist must be registered as a Recreation Therapist in The District of Columbia. The Activities Assistant is responsible for implementing recreational activities to patients. Experience in the health care field or in working with children with developmental disabilities is required. The Activities Assistant must be at least 18 years of age and have knowledge of child development, safety to patients during treatment and precautionary measures to be taken and infection control principles and techniques. This individual will have the ability to follow supervising professional, both verbally and in writing, express self clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing, relate compassionately and appropriately with children in accordance with the guidelines of the hospital, relate appropriate with patientís families in accordance with the guidelines of the hospital, establish and maintain effective working relationships with therapists and other employees, manage time effectively and be flexible to accommodate patient and staffing needs.
