What is Education support at the HSC Pediatric Center?
The Education Department provides academic instruction for in-patient children, adolescents and young adult’s ages 3-21 diagnosed with: traumatic brain injuries, spina bifida, emotional disorders, orthopedic impairments, specific learning disabilities, multi-handicapping conditions, speech/language disorders, etc.
Education support services are provided in a comfortable and friendly environment. When applicable a comprehensive review of IEP goals and objectives are completed and each student’s instructional level / individual learning style is evaluated to align HSC education support with local school district academic standards.
One to one direct teaching and small group instruction is focused on the development of the whole child. The Education Specialists are available to assist families post-discharge to ensure an appropriate transition back to school.

Students who are expected to stay at the hospital for 2 weeks or longer are referred to their respective school districts for home or hospital instruction. Upon receiving the referral, the school district assigns a visiting teacher to provide academic instruction.
