What is Aquatic Therapy?

Therapists and medical professionals have long recognized the value of aquatic training. Water offers unique qualities that help children to move. The warmth, buoyancy, and velocity-dependent resistance make water the ideal place for children with all levels of disability impairments.

• Warm water relaxes muscles
• Water supports children so that they can stand and walk
• Water offers resistance to fast movements, which makes strengthening exercises fun
• Warm water makes it easier to stretch tight muscles

Who is on the Aquatic Therapy Team?

The Aquatic Therapy Team consists of occupational, physical, and recreational therapists, and two technicians who assist in maintaining the pool chemicals and temperature at ideal levels. The team consists of licensed pool operators; many are Neuro-developmental therapy trained and all are experienced in aquatic therapy.

The Therapy Pool

The HSC Pediatric Center offers aquatic therapy in our comfortable warm (98 degrees Fahrenheit) indoor therapy pool. Your child is lifted smoothly and easily in a hydraulic transfer lift from the floor to the pool.

Aquatic Therapy Services

• Private changing areas
• Shower chair and shower bed for bathing after the pool
• Variety of flotation devices available
• Individual treatment sessions
