The HSC Pediatric Center (HSC) is the only hospital in the Washington metropolitan area dedicated exclusively to the rehabilitation and care of children with special needs.
Our kids are survivors. They have been in traumatic accidents ... or have had serious illnesses or difficult births. They have spent time in another hospital before coming to ours. More than anything, we want to help these youngsters (of all ages) to return to their homes, schools and communities at the best of their abilities.
The Hospital is a unique place for volunteers who want to make a difference in the lives of children. As a volunteer, you play a very important role in helping our special kids prepare to return to their homes, schools, and communities. All Hospital For Sick Children volunteers must:
All Hospital for Sick Children volunteers should be willing to commit to at least three hours a week that are most convenient (for the volunteer.)
PATIENT CARE VOLUNTEERS choose to work directly with our children, extending the care of our nurses and therapists. You might cuddle a baby or toddler whose family cannot be here. You may read a bedtime story, or help with schoolwork. You may also help recreation therapy staff plan and organize special parties, activities and outings for our patients.
ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEERS are vital to the successful operation of the Hospital. We turn to these volunteers to lend a helping hand with administrative tasks such as typing and filing. We may ask for help with special events and fundraising activities, too.
